Buyer Information
- Treatment: These are creosote-treated wood. By purchasing, the buyer acknowledges the treatment and the condition of the ties.
- Use guidance: Health Canada keeps creosote registered for heavy-duty outdoor, non-residential wood such as railway ties. Do not use the ties indoors, for food gardens or play structures, or where they will contact drinking water or fish habitat.
- Handling: Wear gloves and long sleeves, and wash before eating. Use dust protection when cutting, and collect sawdust and offcuts.
- Never burn: Open burning of creosote-treated wood is prohibited in Alberta and B.C.
- Disposal of culls (Alberta): Under Alberta Environment guidance, creosote-treated ties are not hazardous waste. They may go to Class I or Class II landfills with prior permission from the operator, but not to Class III (inert) landfills. Bulky-item rates vary, for example $167/t at Foothills and $330/t at Lesser Slave.
- Disposal of culls (B.C.): The B.C. Hazardous Waste Regulation excludes treated wood products from the hazardous waste definition. Check local landfill acceptance before bidding.
- Trucking: The full lot is about four legal flatdeck loads. Freight is the largest cost component, so get a carrier quote before bidding.
- Load-out: Buyer supplies loading equipment (loader, forks or grapple) and trucking. Site access, scheduling and safety orientation are arranged through IronHub.
- Contact IronHub regarding whole-lot or partial-lot terms. Inspection is welcome.
- Sold as is, where is.
